Food Assistance
The St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Joseph County provides emergency food assistance through our food pantry, home visits, bread basket, and soup kitchen.
Program Center Food Pantry
For residents of St. Joseph County, IN the St. Vincent de Paul Society's food pantry is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am until 2pm at 520 Crescent Avenue in South Bend.

If this is your first time utilizing our food pantry or if you do not live in an area served by one of our Vincentian conferences, you can visit the St. Vincent de Paul Center.

You may utilize the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry once every 30 days. A photo ID and proof of address (current within 60 days) are required at every visit.
St. Vincent Elkhart Food Pantry
For residents of Elkhart County, IN the food pantry at St. Vincent de Paul Church Elkhart is open on Tuesdays from 1pm until 2:30pm at 1108 South Main St. in Elkhart. ​

Home Visits
The St. Vincent de Paul Society’s Home Visit Program is about more than just assistance—it’s about understanding your story and walking with you through life’s challenges.

When two of our caring volunteers visit your home with food, they will also listen with compassion and respect, taking the time to understand your unique situation. In the comfort of your space, we’ll talk about how we can best support you—not just with temporary help, but with encouragement and companionship, too.

We’re here to treat you with the dignity you deserve and offer support in a way that feels right for you.

You may request a home visit once every 30 days.

If you live in an area where a home visit is available, we will submit a request, and a volunteer will reach out within 2-5 days to confirm the delivery. A phone number is required for service.
Bread Basket
The Society coordinates its efforts with local businesses and other nonprofits to eliminate food waste in our community. When businesses have excess bread products, the Society is able to distribute these items to our neighbors through the Bill Szajko Bread Basket located at the St. Vincent de Paul Center at 520 Crescent Avenue in South Bend.

The bread basket is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am until 2pm. If you are only picking up bread, no identification is required.
St. Augustine's Soup Kitchen
To feed neighbors in our community, St. Augustine Soup Kitchen is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11am until 12:30pm at 1501 W. Washington Street. Volunteers prepare and offer soup, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, bread and sweets as available, fruit, and a cold drink. All are welcome.​
